Tom Tykwer

1965 Tom Tykwer is born in Wuppertal, Germany.

1979 At the age of 14, Tom gets a job at the local cinema (surprisingly called Cinema) in Wuppertal. He has the master key of the cinema and takes advantage of that by locking himself in in the middle of the night and watching the copy of Blade Runner that belongs to the theatre over and over again..

1984 Tom finishes school ('Abitur') with an average of 3.6 (out of 6 with 1 being the best mark) (Which, considering my personal average, leaves some hope for me, I guess.......).

Then he does his 'Zivildienst' (community service as a substitute for the compulsory military service) in Frankfurt and moves to Berlin afterwards, where he works for almost ten years at the cinema Moviemento in Berlin-Kreuzberg. This is also the place where the regulars of the future X-Filme Creative Pool crew meets.

1991 Because, his first short film, is presented at the Hof Film Festival.

1993 Tom Tykwer presents his first feature film: Die tödliche Maria (Deadly Maria).

1994 Producer Stefan Arndt and Tom Tykwer are the founders of the production company X-Filme Creative Pool, they are joined by Wolfgang Becker (Das Leben ist eine Baustelle) (Life Is All You Get)) and Dani Levy (Die Mediocren, Stille Nacht (Silent Night), Meschugge (The Giraffe)).

1996 Tom is co-writer of Wolfgang Becker's film Das Leben ist eine Baustelle (Life Is All You Get).

30 October 1997 Tom Tykwers second feature film Winterschläfer (Wintersleepers) is released in Germany.

20 August 1998 Toms third and up to now most successful film Lola rennt (Run Lola Run) is released in Germany.

2000 Krieger und die Kaiserin, Der (The princess and warrior) is released.

2001 Heaven is released.
