Message   I played Adagio For Strings in my Orchestra in 2003 and quickly fell in love with the song. But what is most fasinating to me is listening to other orchestras perform it... the concentration that this piece takes should be put under consideration because it asks the musicans to focus on long passages and odd harmonies. However, the reciprication of these efforts is immense. The emotion which flowed through my blood when my orchestra first performed this piece almost flawlessly was nothing less than electric. I could tell the audience was in sync with us and intently listening. It just draws them in.
But anyway the song is actually on the Academic Decathalon list for the 2003-2004 Music Selections and I am very glad!

Message   I performed this piece in High School and fell in love with it. Now in college, I was watching "Platoon" for a writing class. It's much too overused and actually makes me dislike a very well written and performed piece.

Stone makes the song corny, which I'm sure was not Barber's intention. Yuck.

Message   I don't normally like classical music but this theme is probably one of the most moving pieces of music i've ever heard, especially when I saw it on "Platoon". Well done Samuel Barber!

Message   Adagio for Strings is so sad...

...and i think that it is this sadness that becomes incredible music.

...beyond the movies "Platoon" and "Amelie", Adagio for Strings was played after the deaths of Presidents Roosevelt and Kennedy.

...yesterday i made download of the MP3, and so far already i heard perhaps 50 times.

...so simple and so magnificent !

...thank you Samuel Barber...

I've also been trying to figure out where else I've heard it. Lorenzo's Oil and The Elephant Man are two other movies it has occurred in.
